Aleksandra Gryka (Warsaw, 1977), an interesting composer working in Poland today. She burst onto the scene in 2000 by winning the First Prize at the EuroArtMeeting Composer Competition in Wroclaw for a composition for symphony orchestra and in 2006 the Culture Award of Polish Television. Aleksandra started composition studies in 1998 at the Academy of Music in Cracow under the guidance of Krystyna Nazar and computer composition studies with Magdalena Długosz. Also music by
Maria Symanovksa (on a recent release of
Ballades & Romances with Elisabeth Zapolska, mezzo-soprano and pianist Bart van Oort) and
Krystyna Nazar's Concerto for percussion and orchestra.
