Wereldpremière - Sally Beamish

In Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ speelt Amsterdam Sinfonietta samen met Ronald Brautigam de wereldpremière van Pianoconcert nr. 1 van componiste Sally Beamish, een werk dat zij schreef in opdracht van Amsterdam Sinfonietta speciaal voor Ronald Brautigam en het orkest, dat onder leiding staat van violiste en artistiek leider Candida Thompson: It’s always exciting to work on something which is written for us specifically, and if the composer knows us as a group it becomes more personally tailored to what they know we can do.
Het pianoconcert is een hommage aan het ruige, duistere Schotse landschap. Beamish liet zich inspireren door het Nationaal Park Cairnsgorms in Noordoost-Schotland. Ze schreef daar het grootste deel van het werk. Een plek waar ook Brautigam vaak verblijft met zijn Schotse vrouw. In de muziek weerklinken natuurgeluiden en Schotse volksvertellingen. Het stuk kan zowel op fortepiano als op een moderne vleugel gespeeld worden, maar de première speelt Brautigam op moderne vleugel.

The chamber opera She Lost Her Voice That’s, How We Knew by Frances White is now available on CD. This recording of the chamber opera for solo voice and electronic sound was a collaboration with soprano Kristin Norderval and Valeria Vasilevski, who directed and wrote the libretto.
The opera moves through situations of trauma or awe, exploring the necessity to put into words what is unspeakable. Valeria based her text on conversations that took place at the beginning of their collaboration. They talked about many things, including some of the most profound events in their lives: times of trauma, death, awe, wonder. At these moments, experiences beyond words, they were at a loss of words and lost their voices and fell silent. She Lost Her Voice, That’s How We Knew grew from this insight.

Sylvia Maessen is genomineerd voor een compositieprijs Donna in Musica 2016. in Italië. De organisatie Fondazione Adkins-Chiti, die zich op Europees niveau inzet voor hedendaagse muziek heeft haar als enige Nederlandse componiste, genomineerd voor haar compositie Overtura real voor strijkorkest.
Rond 60 andere componisten uit heel Europa doen mee. Tijdens concerten op 8 maart a.s. in Padua zal dit en andere werken uitgevoerd worden door I Solisti Veneti o.l.v. dirigent Claudio Scimone.

This is an exciting month for Elena Langer (Moscow, 1974). The world premiere of Figaro gets a divorce, commissioned by the Welsh National Opera takes place on February 21, 2016 in Cardiff. And her new cd Landscape with Three People has just been released. This is a selection of chamber music works that she composed between 2002-2013. Characteristics of her music are the playful contrasts (contrapunt) and subtle sounds structures. As a Londoner for many years, she combines her Russian roots with the musical influences of Sjostakovitsj, Rimsky-Korsakov en Stravinsky with the English musical tradition
