Oidípous - Calliope Tsoupaki
Kleurrijke muzikale bewerking van Sophocles’ laatste tragedie
De Grieks-Nederlandse componiste presenteert met schrijver Edzard Mik een semi-scenisch oratorium gebaseerd op Sophocles’ tragedie Oidípous te Kolonos. Tsoupaki en Mik gooien in hun bewerking alle moderne interpretatieve ballast overboord en gaan terug naar de originele tekst. Tsoupaki geeft het rijkgeschakeerde emotionele palet van het verhaal vorm met de veelkleurigheid van het barokinstrumentarium. Centraal staat een uitgerekte flashback naar het moment waarop Oidípous onbewust zijn vader vermoordde. Terugdenkend aan dit even ongelukkige als noodlottige moment lost de woede om zijn ellendig verlopen leven uiteindelijk op in berusting en verlichting uit zijn lijden.
Deze productie is de afsluiting van het festival en vormt daarmee het afscheid van Pierre Audi als artistiek directeur.

Nocturne – Tomoko Mukaiyama
Tomoko Mukaiyama creëerde de installatie Nocturne in de nasleep van de tsunami op 11 maart 2011. Zij liet zich inspireren door het verlies en de hoop van de slachtoffers in Japan.
Tijdens het openingsconcert speelt Mukaiyama een collage van Nocturnes van Chopin gemixt met andere meer hedendaagse composities en video.

Tijdens het Finale Concert op zaterdag 24 mei in Amersfoort van het Tristan Keuris Concours werd bekendgemaakt dat Aspasia Nasopoulou winnaar is van zowel de juryprijs als de publiekprijs in de categorie: Ensemble. Het winnende werk: Nanourisma for piano, flute and bassoon.
Het Keuris Componisten Concours gaat uit van het gedachtengoed van Tristan Keuris en richt zich op de inspiratie en wisselwerking tussen (jeugdige) amateurs en professionele musici. Keuris wordt beschouwd als een van Nederlands grootste naoorlogse componisten. Componisten van over de hele wereld hebben composities ingestuurd voor symfonieorkest en ensemble voor het Tristan Keuris Concours.

The COB is a large orchestra, with strings, horns and rhythm section, founded in autumn 2010 by composer & conductor Hazel Leach. The members of the orchestra are not only improvising instrumentalists, but are also the composers. There is no fixed line-up: the composers can select instruments from the pool, to develop a brand-new and innovative orchestral repertoire with stylistic influences ranging from classical to jazz and from folk to free…. the music written for this band has no exclusion zones.

Holland Festival presents Tomoko's 'Nocturne'

The Holland Festival has invited Tomoko Mukaiyama to present her work Nocturne for their coming festival edition in June. She created Nocturne in the aftermath of the Tsunami three years ago. The two 'dead' piano's used in this installation are a metaphor of the disaster and immense destruction that happened to the people in Japan.

On June 2nd she opens the installation at 6.30pm with a piano concert of Chopin's Nocturnes mixed with other more contemporary compositions and video.
The concert is free of charge but a donation to help bring back music to the lives of the surviving children in Japan is encouraged by supporting the organization.
